If you go down to Uley today (or any day until 8th June), then make sure you visit the Prema Arts Centre’s new exhibition of mixed media prints by the hugely talented Aine Venables.
I love Aine’s work – I have four postcards of her inventive and playful images on the wall of my work hut – which explores ideas of location, identity and belonging and has a strong sense of having been constructed, almost like a stage set. ‘I generate the images in layers, like flats in a theatre,’ she says, ‘and I often have a few works on the go at once, waiting for the right texture or pattern to present itself. The final coming together of the image can take some time.’
And it shows. These are complex images with stories to tell. Beautifully made and beautiful to behold.
Aine Venables prints are on show at Prema Arts Centre, South Street, Uley, Gloucestershire GL11 5SS until 8th June. www.prema.org.uk/index.php/venables
