‘mending’

‘mending’ a tennis ball

two-stitched-tennis-balls.jpg

Although research is ongoing  I am eager to get ‘making’ so have been experimenting stitching into tennis balls. I have been thinking of the marking of tennis balls  at Milikens Mill.  Students from Stroud college came in to the museum on Thursday and I spent some time talking to them about what a residency involves  and of ideas developing..

One student had worked in the mills for a short time in a previous life as a ‘mender’ so it was lovely talking to her about her job and  the comradery of workers.

***A friend has just shown me work by the artist Tom Phillips where he has been working with tennis balls . Look at his blog here

The red stitching on the yellow balls look fantastic! I would love to see a completely red ball, or a ball made completely with stroud cloth.
    Looks great Deirdre, i’m following.
